The Nominees for the Latin Grammy Awards are announced!

Every year in November, our favorite Reggaetoneros and Latin musical artists are nominated to win a Latin Grammy Award.

This year, artists such as J Balvin,

Bad Bunny and Ozuna have the highest amount of nominations.

Personally, I am a huge J Balvin fan and so proud he has 13 nominations. I met him when I was 14 years old and have been in love with him ever since. I am a J Balvin fanatic.

J Balvin’s “Colores” album has been nominated for Album of the Year, Best Urban Performance, Best Urban Song and so many more. J Balvin has had collaborations with other artists and featured in other songs which added to his list of 13 nominations.

Bad Bunny on the other hand, released “YHLQMDLG” and has become an anthem for 2020 by having “Safaera” and “ Yo Perreo Sola” hit on replay and played all over social media.

These are the top two male artists dominating the Latin Grammy Awards nominations so far.

Although, the Latin Grammy Awards have many male artists nominated, the women in Latin music should also be highlighted. Women are just as important to Reggaeton music and should be nominated for more of their work.

Karol G, had 0 nominations last year, and now has 4 nominations this year. Her single “Tusa” with Nicki Minaj has gained amazing success which led to her nominations.

Rosalía is another major female artist who hails from Spain and has been welcomed into the world of Latin music. However, there is debate on whether Rosalía belongs in the Latin Grammys. She is a Spaniard and not Latinx.

Some viewers of the Latin Grammys believe she does not belong in the nomination categories because of her background. Reggaeton music, is known to have roots from Afro-Latinx people, Puerto-Ricans, and Panamanians. It is a genre of music that Latinx people from the islands, South and Central America produce.

Rosalía, who is from Europe, does not have these roots. Although in 2019, Rosalía won “Album of The Year” in the Latin Grammys, there is debate on whether she deserved to win that award compared to the other Latinx artists who consider themselves Latinx. Do you think Rosalía deserves to be nominated for a Latin Grammy Award?

Remember to mark your calendar for, November 19th at 8:00 pm on Univision to see if your favorite artists will win a Latin Grammy Award.

I hope Rosalia should be counted as a nominee in the Latin Grammys! I really love her and she has brought a unique style of modern music by introducing contemporary flamenco music to young people.

Sarah! this is an amazing article, especially due to the fact that I myself am a huge fan of reggaetón music. I am a HUGE Ozuna fan, so I look forward to the Latin Grammys.
