Coachella 2022 Women Line Up- First Time Performers Highlights

Writer's picture: Sarah RuizSarah Ruiz

This year's Coachella line up consisted of a unique group of female artists that have broken musical barriers, have won Grammys, had No. 1 singles on the Billboard charts and so many more accomplishments. Fans from all over the world had the option to watch Coachella live in person in California, but also for those who could not go in person, YouTube provided a free livestream for fans. Thanks YouTube!

There were artists who performed for the first time on the Coachella stage in which I believe their set deserves a round of applause. My top female Coachella performances (who also performed for the first time ever in Coachella) includes Brazilian Queen Anitta, “Hot Girl” Megan Thee Stallion, recent Grammy winner Doja Cat and Billboards Rule Breaker, Karol G.

Anitta, hailing from Brazil represented her favela upbringing with her stage set including the backdrop, playing Brazilian funk and of course what she does best, dancing and shaking her booty. As a fan of Anitta, I admire her music and that she sings in English, Spanish and Portuguese! She sang Faking Love joined by Saweetie, Envolver & Rave de Favela with Diplo. Anitta paid tribute to her Brazilian roots by including several Brazilian songs in her set such as dance breaks and playing instruments to famous Brazilian tunes.

Megan Thee Stallion performed her best hits such as Body, WAP, Sweetest Pie and more. She also dropped her new track “Plan B” that disses an ex and serves as a female empowerment song about women loving themselves and not worrying about men. The audience enjoyed the one and only WAP,” which is famously rapped with Cardi B. Although Cardi B wasn’t there to perform the song, Megan along with her amazing dancers gave it their all during their performance for her ' 'big ole freaks' fans.

Doja Cat’s performance included an amazing dance routine in which I admire the choreographers and the dancers who brought her music to life. Doja’s choreographers included the creatively talented Fullout Cortland and Ebony Williams to deliver a performance that has never been done before. One of the dances included dancers assembling their bodies into a mountain, and other visually appealing ways that resembled her songs. The consistent costume changes of Doja and her dancers added another level of the show-stopping performance.

Karol G had fans in the audience wearing turquoise wigs to resemble “La Bichota.” Not only did Karol G perform her famously known Tusa, Ahora me llama and Karol G also took time out of her set to pay homage to every Latin artist who paved the way for other Latinos in the industry and ones who never had the chance to perform at Coachella despite their songs being placed at No. 1. Some of these songs included Daddy Yankee‘s “Gasolina,” Celia Cruz‘s “La Vida Es Un Carnaval,” Daddy Yankee‘s “Gasolina,” and more. Karol G also brought out Becky G and sang “MAMIII” for the first time live and had the crowd singing along.

Who was your favorite Coachella performer?
